Save the Toes! No Hard Soles!

E-mail Print PDF

We have established a general No Hard Soles policy at Thursday Blues. We can fit more people on the floor and everyone will have a better time if you don't have to worry much about that oblivious guy right next to you stepping hard on your toes. If you need particular foot support or really need to wear hard-soled dance shoes for some reason, then by all means, but be particularly careful. No street shoes. Any shoes that have walked around outside have grit on the soles, unless you've cleaned the hell out of them with a wire brush and examined them very closely. The floor at Celebration is pristine and beautiful, and we'll keep it that way.

Aside from that, please wear soft-soled shoes or socks. Soft-soled in this case means a thin layer of leather or whatever wrapped snuggly around your foot. Just about any sort of ballet shoe or soft-soled moccasin will do. Round-edged soles, cushy trainers or any shoes with a distinct sole or heel don't make it. If you were to step on anybody's toes, you should be able to feel their toes just like they feel your foot.

Bring a range of socks and/or soft-sold shoes and see what works best. Ladies, unless the balls of your feet are very well calloused, bare feet will be too sticky for spins, and the torque will hurt your knees. You probably won't feel it until the next day, but trust us, it'll be bad. Half socks or thin socks rolled down to your arch give you both the spinning toes and the grabbing heels. Check out Capezio footUndeez, or something similar. We'd go with the leopardskin. Try things out and see what works best.
